Sony Ericsson - world domination through camera phones

By: Matt Sharp

In 2008, one phone-maker is set on shaping the game of camera-equipped mobile phones. That phone-maker is Sony Ericsson, and they plan to dominate not just the universe in top-end camera phones, but bottom-end ones, as well!
Camera phones in history - the Sony Ericsson legacy
It's quite apt, when you think about it, that Sony Ericsson should be the ones at the forefront of the coming paradigm shift amongst camera-equipped mobile phones. I mean, it was they who kicked it all off, long ago, in 2002. Lest we forget, they were the first company to unleash a mobile phone with a camera in it, within the UK. That handset was the Sony Ericsson P800, but it didn't get the mass market penetration Sony Ericsson would've liked, since it was an amazingly (compared to other mobile phones at the time) high-end smartphone. However, their most iconic handset ever was about to be unleashed, and that one WOULD have great market penetration. That was the Sony Ericsson T610, and it changed the playing field. Here was a handset that stood proudly over the rival mobile phones it was up against. It was small, it was sexy, and the country went MAD for it. And, let us remember that the Sony Ericsson T610 also had an integrated camera, and that it was actually the first phone to hit that wider audience, and make them think, 'Hang on, we actually do want mobile phones with cameras in!'
Today, the market has diverged, into low-end handsets, and top-end camera-equipped mobile phones; and Sony Ericsson really badly want to dominate both!
Sony Ericsson S302 - cheap, cheerful, snappy
If you want a Sony Ericsson camera phone, but you don't need a big, super-powered device, then the Sony Ericsson S302, the first phone in their whole new Snapshot range, is the perfect handset for you. It's a cute little mobile phone, with a compact, slick body, a great screen, and a funky little multimedia player. On top of that, despite this being firmly amongst the ranks of entry-level mobile phones, the Sony Ericsson S302 has a great little 2 megapixel camera. Ok, it doesn't have top-end features like autofocus, but for a budget snapper, it's brilliant!
But the S302 is a budget mobile phone... what if you need a phone that has real clout? What if you need one of Sony Ericsson's Cyber-Shot range...?
Sony Ericsson C905 - the ultimate camera phone?
There's no denying power, and something is very clear: the Sony Ericsson C905's got much more raw power than any other mobile phones you'll come across in the UK. Why is it so special? Simple, it's the first camera phone to be unleashed upon the UK that's got an 8 megapixel camera. Yes, you read that right. 8. That's a ridiculously high pixel resolution, and it means that with the Sony Ericsson C905, you have the ability to take the absolute most incredible photos you've ever witnessed, from any camera-equipped mobile phone, in the history of everything ever. Oh, and on top of that, don't forget that Sony Ericsson have packed it full of Cyber-Shot brilliance, and that's going to make the pictures it produces even more vibrant. Add in an amazing multimedia browser, WiFi, HSDPA and integrated GPS, and you have to come to the conclusion that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, without doubt, the king of the hill!
