A Quick Introduction to Cars Powered by Hydrogen

By: Jay Edwards

Watching cable news shows, or read newspapers or watch TV news, you might conclude that the energy crisis can only be solved by big auto.

If you dig a little more you soon find alternative technologies already being used that also use hydrogen as motor vehicle fuel. These technologies are not mainstream but rather the domain of innovative research and development firms and, in some cases, independent inventors.

What most of these non-conventional technologies share is that the hydrogen as motor vehicle fuel is created as it is used, or what many call "on-demand"..

The hydrogen comes from an instrument mounted in the automobile that generates hydrogen as it is used doing away with the need for containers of hydrogen. The fuel for creating the on board hydrogen is H2O, plain old water.

You might have already come to realize that this eliminates the two primary problems of the mainstream R&D.

With hydrogen generated as needed there are no volatile containers of hydrogen gas. The only thing you add to an automobile is a set up that creates the hydrogen from water and feeds it into the engine's intake system.

Second of all, the energy to make energy is very, very cheap and environmentally friendly. It is an on board system that uses H2O. And what is more affordable and more plentiful than water? And the electrical power is produced by the automobile's electrical system. Hydrogen burns totally clean by oxidizing to create water.
